Case Study: Capturing 'Constellations' for Feeld
Feeld is a dating app for the curious; those open to experiencing people and relationships in new ways. Project Overview: I was commissioned to photograph the launch campaign for ‘Constellations,’ a new feature for the progressive dating app Feeld. Feeld is a platform designed for open-minded individuals to explore dating and relationships beyond traditional norms. The ‘Constellations’ feature is a direct reflection of this ethos, allowing users to link their profile with up to five partners, creating a transparent and honest representation of their relationship network. My role was to create a series of still images that could capture the spirit of these multi-person connections for the campaign's launch.

The project presented two intertwined challenges that needed to be solved simultaneously to create successful imagery.
The Human Challenge: Cultivating Genuine Comfort. Feeld's brand is built on a foundation of safety, consent, and authentic exploration. The primary challenge was to create an environment on set where a large, diverse cast of individuals felt genuinely comfortable, safe, and respected. We needed to capture interactions that were positive, natural, and fun without feeling forced or voyeuristic. This required moving beyond simple direction to foster a real sense of ease and trust among the cast and crew.
The Creative Challenge: Translating a Reveal into a Single Frame. The shoot ran alongside a video team whose core concept was a slow camera zoom-out, starting on two people and gradually revealing a larger, interconnected group. This narrative of discovery is difficult to translate into a single still photograph. My challenge was to capture the entire dynamic of these group "dates"—with all their warmth, intimacy, and shared joy—in one perfectly composed and harmonious frame, avoiding a final image that felt chaotic or staged.
To address these challenges, my approach was centred on creating authentic moments rather than staged poses.
Fostering a Relaxed Environment: We shot in a large, comfortable mansion on the outskirts of London, which gave us the physical space for the cast to relax and interact naturally. Before the cameras rolled, significant time was dedicated to introductions and conversation, allowing a genuine rapport to build. By working closely with an intimacy coordinator, we ensured the cast felt they were part of a fluid, creative process.
Orchestrating, Not Posing: Instead of asking for specific poses, I directed small groups by giving them scenarios or conversation starters. This "directed spontaneity" allowed for real laughter, knowing glances, and comfortable physical interactions to emerge. I could then move around these organic moments, composing my shots to capture the feeling of a perfect, harmonious group date. Using wider lenses allowed me to include multiple "pockets" of intimacy within a single, cohesive frame, successfully translating the video's "reveal" into one impactful image.
The final collection of images successfully captured the essence of the Feeld brand and the 'Constellations' feature. The resulting photographs are light, positive, and sensitive, reflecting the kind of joyful and respectful group date anyone would love to be a part of.
These images formed a key part of the feature's launch campaign, used widely to introduce the 'Constellations' concept to the world. They provided a visual language that was both aspirational and authentic, perfectly aligning with Feeld's mission to create a space for people to explore connections openly and honestly. [
